The International Economic Development Council, the largest nonprofit professional association for professional economic developers in the world, has selected Wellington County as a recipient of a 2022 Excellence Award.
Recognized each year during the IEDC Annual Conference, the awards honor organizations for exemplary economic development marketing campaigns, projects, and programs. This year, 25 award categories honoured organizations and individuals for their efforts in creating positive change in urban, suburban, and rural communities.
“This year’s awardees exemplify the ingenuity, leadership, and determination needed to meet the challenges of today and the future,” said IEDC President and CEO Nathan Ohle. “The winners of IEDC’s Excellence in Economic Development awards represent the best of economic development and demonstrate the level of leadership that our profession strives for every day.”
Wellington’s County’s Farmers’ Market Box Series, organized through the Taste Real initiative, was recognized with a silver award in the Innovation Programmes and Initiatives category.
“The Farmers’ Market Box Series delivers a curated selection of outstanding local farmers’ markets products to doorsteps in Wellington County and Guelph each summer and fall,” said George Bridge, Chair of Wellington County’s Economic Development Committee. “The initiative instills pride in our exceptional local food offerings, and we’re honoured to have it receive international recognition.
Award winners are selected by a diverse panel of economic and community developers from around the world. IEDC received over 500 submissions from the United States and four additional countries around the world and winners were announced during the 2022 International Economic Development Council’s Annual Conference in Oklahoma City, USA on September 18. The Taste Real Farmers’ Market Box Series was also recognized with a 2021 Award of Excellence from the Economic Development Council of Ontario.
