Guelph man charged after allegedly stealing poppy box in Palmerston

PALMERSTON – Wellington OPP have arrested a 43 year old man from Guelph, who allegedly stole a poppy box from a restaurant in Palmerston.  

Police say the man stole the donation box on November 5th at a restaurant on Main Street early in the morning. later that same day, he attempted to steal a second box, but was not successful.

On November 8th, the man went back to the restaurant and a staff member immediately called police. Officers arrested him on main Street. OPP say he tried to use a fake name and was carrying drugs and a replica handgun.

Thomas Joseph Cunningham is facing the following charges:

– Carry Concealed Weapon contrary to the Criminal Code
– Obstruct Peace Officer contrary to the Criminal Code
– Theft Under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code
– Breach Officer Undertaking contrary to the Criminal Code
– Breach of Probation contrary to the Criminal Code x3
– Possession of a Cannabis for the Purpose of Selling contrary to the Cannabis Act
– The Accused was held for a bail hearing.
