Polar Plunge Raised over $10,000!

DURHAM – West Grey Police raised over $10,000 at their annual Polar Plunge on Saturday in Durham.
All of the money raised at the event event make Special Olympics games possible providing funding for athletes to compete in their sport and to gain friendships that will last a lifetime. Plenty of brave souls jumped into the freezing cold plunge tank provided by the West Grey Fire Department at St. Peters, St Pauls School in Durham. 88.7 The River was on location for the event and kept everyone loose with a dance party and other fun events. Our morning show team actually raised $887 and Rob and Leigh were among the people to take the plunge.
In the spirit of the games, students and faculty of St Peters St Pauls School along with local police officers played hockey and basketball game as the stands cheered for the players and screamed for prizes being tossed into the stands courtesy of New Orleans and Godfathers Pizza.
After all the excitement, students filled their stomachs with free hot dogs supplied by Durham Foodland and plungers prepared themselves with warm hot chocolate donated by Tim Hortons in Durham. Prizes and awards supplied by Ian Grahams Driving Service, Durham Furniture and CMR Insurance were handed out and cheques were presented from numerous community organizations!
Finally the moment everyone waited for, the countdown “5,4,3,2,1 PLUNGE!” the spectators screamed as our plungers jumped into the ice cold water one after another wearing funny costumes at causing a big splash. High fives were given and towels were passed out as the plungers exited the plunge tank with smiles and shivers knowing that they have benefited so many of our Special Olympics Athletes. Plungers proudly wore their well earned Polar Plunge gear and each left with a full meal courtesy of Harvey’s Suiss Chalet in Hanover.
