WELLINGTON NORTH – Wellington Heights Secondary School along with Wellington North Power held a career fair last Thursday, October 4th.
Director of Legislative Services/Clerk Karren Wallace says it shined a light on the municipal sector.
“With more than 50% of government employees set to retire in the next 5 to 7 years, we felt from a succession planning perspective, it was important to showcase the careers available to young adults.”
More than 400 students attended the event, where departments from Wellington North were represented by Operations/Water/Roads, Building, Engineering, Human resources, and Administration.
The students were engaged by interactive displays in addition to asking questions and providing feedback to the jobs board.
Wellington North Mayor Andy Lennox says the day was a big success.
“It was such a pleasure to work in partnership with our youth and Wellington Heights to discuss students’ career aspirations and highlight current and future career options available within our Township and more broadly in the municipal sector.”
The Township of Wellington North is considering making this event an annual event.
