HARRISTON – Wellington County OPP brought in a police helicopter to help track down a suspect vehicle in Harriston.
Police were conducting a criminal investigation in the area of Concession Road 4 near Teeswater early Tuesday morning when the vehicle entered the crime scene and was driving in a dangerous manner.
The helicopter was brought in to help track down the vehicle, to avoid a dangerous police chase. The vehicle was on Wellington Road 87 near Harriston when it went into a cornfield to try to evade the chopper. The flight crew continued to monitor the two suspects as they fled on foot through cornfields and wooded areas. OPP members including two canine units tracked and arrested the male and female suspects near Harriston without further incident.
24 year old Damien Dallas Yorke Thomas was arrested and charged with flight from police, property obtained by crime over 5,000, assaulting a police officer with a weapon and dangerous driving.
27 year old Heidi Lynne Diemert of Huron-Kinloss Township was also arrested and charged with two counts of property obtained under $5,000.
