WEST GREY – Police received information that locals had been solicited for donations towards a fundraiser involving youth.
The report came in on May 31st, about youths selling fruits and vegetables to raise money on behalf of their school.
After Police investigation, it was determined that no fundraiser of that sort is taking place at this time within the schools of West Grey.
Police are continuing to investigate the matter.
Police are asking that any victims who had been solicited or anyone who has witnessed such solicitation to contact the West Grey Police at 519-371-6911.
Phony fundraisers can contact you through mail, e-mail, telephone, or by knocking on your door. They claim to represent a charitable organization that may have a similar name to a legitimate charity.
To avoid charity scam, ask for and check the charity’s registration number online and only donate to those you are familiar with. It is also recommended to donate is other methods other than cash.
