Police have launched the #PocketYourKeys prevention initiative to encourage people to be in control of their vehicle and their keys while not in use.
In 2017, South Bruce OPP received 109 stolen vehicle reports. 77 of those cars were left unlocked and/or had the keys left inside.
When cars are stolen there can be many hidden consequences including criminal acts like transporting stolen property, drug trafficking, human trafficking and vehicle owner liability if your car were to be in a serious accident. These are all things people assume to be unlikely and unimaginable but it could happen and that is the message #PocketYourKeys is trying to get across.
