Wellington North firefighters to be trained on emergency first aid on pets

Wellington North Fire Services will soon be able to help all members of your family in a fire emergency….even the four legged ones! Firefighters will be trained this month on animal first aid and CPR.

Thanks to Heartland Animal Hospital, Invisible Fence and a generous local business. One truck from both the Arthur and the Mount Forest Halls will be equipped with a Pet Oxygen Mask Kits. The Fire Prevention Officer’s vehicle and the Fire Chief’s Command vehicle will also have this lifesaving equipment on board. Each kit contains three sizes of pet oxygen masks that are specifically designed to fit over the muzzles of dogs and cats.  It is estimated that up to 150,000 pets die each year in North America from smoke inhalation due to household fires.

Fire Chief Dave Guilbault wants to reduce or eliminate that number from our region. Veterinarian Emma Webster from the Heartland Animal Hospital will train Fire Fighters later this month.
