HARRISTON – The Cool Cones public art exhibit will be hitting the streets of Harriston this summer.
The exhibition is being done to celebrate the Canada Packers Reunion happening on August 11th this year and the history of the York Ice Cream Production in Harriston. The exhibit is a team effort from the Minto Cultural Roundtable and the Harriston Revitalization Committee.
Cool Cones will feature 10 artists adding their art and craft work to a three dimensional metal and urethane spray foam ice cream cone sculpture to create unique works of art. The base sculpture has been created by Andy Pridham from the Town of Minto. Cool Cones will be on display from June 2nd to October 26th of this year.
Local artists are encouraged to sign up for the project online at www.treasuresofminto.ca.
Manager of Economic Development Belinda Wick-Graham says they are very excited about this project.
“The Harriston Downtown Revitalization Committee has been working on this idea for a couple years now in an effort to stop traffic in the downtown core. A special event is being planned to unveil the “Cool Cones” on June 2nd and the public will be invited to vote on the People’s Choice cone from June 2nd – August 11th when the winning artist will be recognized at the Harriston Street Dance.”
