MOUNT FOREST – The Mount Forest Community Complex is set to host the 5th annual Final Battle for Mental Health.
The charity hockey game on December 19th will include appearances by former Team Canada goaltender Kendra Fisher and Guelph Storm’s Garrett McFadden. Country artist Meghan Morrison and the River’s very own Cara Smith will also be on hand.
The Get in Touch for Hutch and the WES for Youth hockey teams will square off for a good cause at 8pm. WES, also known as Wellness and Emotional Support for Youth Online recently started their Fill the Smile Campaign. They are hoping to raise $200,000 to help build online youth counseling.
In a press release, Executive Director Jennifer Mulcaster says the service can be quite expensive. In order for us to provide professional and meaningful service, online counseling costs the organization approximately $100 per hour. According to Children’s Mental Health Ontario, 1 in 5 youth in Ontario experience some sort of mental health challenge, and about 5 in 6 of those kids don’t receive the proper treatment.
Board Chair Dustin Garron says they have been delivering this online service for five years, and they are hoping to keep it going.
“As an Organization, we receive little government funding and rely on our strong community to keep this service available.”
